I remember so many details about that last day, Mum, but most of all I remember stroking your fingers - your lovely, long, tapering fingers, pianist's fingers, the fingers that had so often wiped my tears - and knowing that I would never be able to stroke them again.
Then, with pitiless speed after so long an illness, three short breaths and you were gone.
Except that they are not gone, those who live in our hearts; as you live in mine, wherever I am, day by day.

You're braver than me in being able to describe those things - something I could not do in my case. Thoughts with you today.
The speed of someone's leaving can be merciful but it is so painful for those left behind.
As you say you have wonderful memories and your mother live forever in your heart.Love to you today.
Thank you, James. That does help, you know. And thank you, Sean.
That was beautifully written Welshcakes, so delicate ... *little hug* from a stranger for you today :)
Hi, Mary. Yes, it was merciful for her. I do have wonderful memories and over the years I have been able to focus on those. Thank you for your kindness. Love to you, too.
Thank you, diver. That "little hug" means a lot.
Awe inspiring words that reach one's throat. Little hug too.
You are in my thoughts today.
"When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight."
Lots of positive thoughts to you. I can certainly well-appreciate the thoughts.
A very powerful post WL, wonderful memories too!
big hugs x x
What a lovely photo of your mum caught unexpectedly.
What lovely and touching tribute to your dear mother Welshcakes.
Thinking of you.

A beautiful commemoration Welshcajes. It is very moving
May your dear mother rest in peace, Welshcakes. What a lovely face, pleine de bonte - some losses are impossible to overcome completely, and not meant to be (the 'gap' in our hearts left by them is for our memories and celebration of them, according to Bonhoeffer and I think that's a good point). Will be lighting a candle for her in the Cathedral. Blessings on you, dear Pat.
Beautiful.
A beautiful post! My dad has only been gone 4 years and a bit...today I gave my mum his watch (fixed) now she can wear it again as I know it makes her feel closer to him. I know it did me when I had it in my possession. Big hug!
Hugs!
Wonderful words and feelings. "Mum" is my favourite word ever.
Those wonderful words are a beautiful tribute to the memory of your Mum xx

My Mum would be very touched to know that a candle is burning for her in France. Thank you, Carol. Thanks, Lucia. I know you miss your Dad very much. I can understand about the watch. A hug to you, too. x Thanks, Saretta. Hugs to you. x Thanks, Ellee. That's a lovely thought. x Many thanks, Cherie. xx
Just caught up with you dear Welshcakes - thoughts and prayers for you and your Mum and a big hug to you
Hi, Sally. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts.
Sorry I am late but the love and hugs for you Welshcakes are just as sincere. A beautiful post.
This day is my own mother's birthday and I mourn her also. Not because she is gone but more so the mother I never had.
Hi, Nunyaa. I know you are sincere. I am so sorry it's a sad day for you, too.
