A DAY OF "FIRSTS"

I am, by nature, a pessimistic and cynical creature. Therefore after the New Year's celebrations I tend to get a little "low" as who knows what will happen in another year?

But this morning at Raffaele's they were all distinctly jovial and something of their positive attitude rubbed off on me. [If you've been following the blog, you will know that my hairdresser also functions as my psychologist, as, I am convinced, hairdressers do for women all over the world.] First they happily proclaimed to all who were there to listen that I was about to have il primo shampoo del 2007 [my first 2007 shampoo], then il primo caffè nostro del 2007 [my first 2007 coffee at Raffaele's] and finally, la prima piega del 2007 [my first 2007 blow-dry]. Who could not feel better after all that?!

So then I decided to complete the circle [as if I needed an excuse!] by having il primo gin-tonic and il primo pranzo [lunch] del 2007 at the Altro Posto. I've shown you petto di pollo alla palermitana [chicken breast, Palermo- style] before, but here is carne alla palermitana [Palermo -style red meat coated in breadcrumbs and parmesan].

What a good start to 2007 I've had!

I wish I had a hairdresser like you, I hope you give him a good tip.

Now listen here. It's all very well for you, but how are we all supposed to get over our New Year blues with you posting stuff like this? Don't you ever have a bad meal in Sicily? I am off to Swansea for a weekend shortly. Be fair or I'll have to post pictures of my meals there.

Ah...I've had il primo stella, il primo plain crisps and il primo listening to England playing rubbish at cricket for 2007.

I get 'low' over the Festive Season too, Welsh...I hide it well from outsiders but inside is a different story. I'm glad everything is back to some kind of normality again and all the forced celebrations etc., are over . I've been feeling down for the past few weeks...but now things are beginning to 'lighten' up again.

It's raining here at present and I adore the rain...gives me a good excuse not to feel guilty as I'm watching the cricket! So with my two cats, I'm snuggled up inside my cabin...one wouldn't believe it's the middle of summer here...thankfully, we've not had a hot summer...so far...I much prefer the cooler weather.

Love your pics of the food...you always show great food pics. :)

I must remember not to come here until I have eaten, and eaten well... May your good start set the tone for the year.

Hi, Ellee. No, I don't tip at the hairdresser's, here or in the UK. I figure that I help keep them in a job by going there twice a week and having the colour done every 3 weeks. In the latter case up to 4 people in the salon could be handling my hair at the various stages and I can't afford to tip them all. I do, however, take them over samples when I cook something British and I brought them all presies back from Britain in October. I got Raff a Bryn Terfyl CD for Xmas and he was delighted with it.
Tin Drummer, I like your "firsts"!
Hi, Ian. Thanks for your good wishes. Happy New Year to you, too.

Well done to you, WCL and may there be more firsts soon. Also good to see the Tin Drummer here. Thought he was in hibernation. Actually, the whole gang is here. Let's make whoopee!
