Here are two more pictures by my friend Gino, this time of houses in the Cartellone area of Modica, scene of a shameful episode in Modica's history: On Assumption Day [15th August] 1474 the "Christians" of Modica, encouraged by fanatical priests, slaughtered about 360 Jews. In 1493 the Jews were expelled en masse from Sicily [under the 1492 Spanish Edict expelling them from all territory controlled by the House of Aragon].

It makes one understand why the Jewish people stick together so much.
They are continuously maligned and berated by those opposed to their beliefs.
Saying that, I cannot agree with their stance on Palestine.
Where I live, there is a small Orthodox Jewish community.
Sadly, they do not mix or even acknowledge, people of other faiths, except when, they are taking money from you, in their local shops and buisinesses!
Still not a good reason for slaughtering them though!
In fact, I can't think of any reason for a person to be persecuted for their religious beliefs, too hideous for words!
I believe, my maternal Great Grandmother was Jewish, my Mother was raised as a Christian.
Me too!
Interestingly, I have a great thirst for learning about the Jewish culture, except, their cuisine. I like bacon and pork, you see!
The painting are lovely Welshcakes.
Love to you and darling Simi.

P.S. Just back from Spain, so, it's 'catch up' time.
Very good Welshcakes. Attractive works but underlining a horrible event, Excellent work
They look very rustic and have lots of character.
So glad you put that in inverted commas.
Hi, Trubes. Yes, the Jews have been persecuted terribly throughout history. I think we should remember that not all Jewish people have the same stance on Palestine and we should be careful about stereotyping. I am very interested in Jewish cuisine èalthough I, too, eat pork] as it has taken on characteristics from every country to which the Jews have emigrated. Gino will be pleased that you like the paintings.
Thank you on Gino's behalf, Jams and Ellee.
I felt I had to, James.
Oh dear, another story of misunderstanding and fear of "them".
But these are lovely paintings, he is a good artist.
Hi, jmb. Gino will be happy that you like these paintings.
