I wanted to show you the lovely, yellow carpet of fiori di mai which covers Sicily in April and May. These photos were taken some years ago at Camarina and for me, the exuberant, inexorable bursting forth of new life represented by the flowers among these ancient tombs evokes both sadness and hope.

What a wonderful sight Welshcakes, golden yellow as far as the eye can see.
Bougianvillia is the thing I remember from Sicily. I don't really like it, nasty thorns, but it reminds me of Australia when I was a kid.
Hi, jmb. I just love the colours of bogainvillea.
Agree with jmb a truly wonderful sight yellow is such a happy colour
What a way to get a girl jealous! lol These are absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing. All the best. M
PS. I prefer sui shi anyday over what I got! lol
Whose tombs are those?
Lovely pics, Welsh. I saw on the news last night that Mount Etna is still having a bit of fun over there.
Lovely pictures. As Winchester asked, what type of tombs. Do you know?
That's just lovely ... and somehow so much better than the fields after fields of oil seed rape that rather spoiled my last trip out of the Smoke.
bellissimo!
Unpremeditated, funny you should mention rape seed.
I just love the blue sky too, truly stunning, I can see why you are hooked. And as Sally says, yellow is a lovely happy colour. I'm wearing brown and beige and feel quite dull now.
More hope than sadness I trust? Beautiful photos, Welshcakes.
Hi, Sally. Yes, yellow is so summery. Hi, M. Glad you like them - and that name [a name from a meme quiz over on M's site]. WW, Steve: Camarina was a Greek colony of Syracuse so I presume the tombs are Greek. I believe some of them date as far back as the 6th century BC. The city was sacked at least 3 times, though. There is a wonderful museum there as many Greek objects have been found in the nearby sea. Hi, Lee. Yes, Etna went quiet but now it is up to its tricks again. Glad that you, too, like the pics, UPM. Do take a look at the ones on Steve's site. Grazie, Sally. Ellee, I'm sure you never look dull! That reminds me that I must do the "cambio di stagione" and get my summer clothes out. It's heating up! Thanks, James. Yes, definitely more hope..
super pics - I am going to print them off and take them in for Toby to see..
Best wishes and hugs
Shani
Hi, Shani. I hope they cheer Toby's day. Will be over to your blog later. Love from Sicily.
