It was hot again at lunch time today so I asked the waiter at the Altro Posto if I could just have a plate of prosciutto, melon and tomatoes. This is their idea of a small portion! It was so refreshing and just what I needed.

It looks delicious...bet it was. Not what I would call a "small" portion though.
You have been very busy blogging today...
Hi, anne. No, not small, but mouthwatering! I suppose I have ...
Now! That's ideal for a hot summer's day. :)
That looks like the perfect lunch for the heat. I'm sure that there are hardly any calories there even though it looks like a lot of food.
I love cantaloupe myself and so does my granddaughter it seems. She was scoffing it off at a great rate while here.

Isn't is often the simplest food that turns out to be the best. Very cooling.
Lee, jmb - yes, for a hot day, perfect. I love cantaloupe too. Shirl, true - simplest is so often best.
Would you say people ate more there than over here?
One doesn't think of the italians as big eaters, but maybe the heat affects metabolic rates differently?
But then I thought you needed to eat more in cold climates?
Hi, Crushed. They probably eat more than us at a festa but day to day they don't. Nobody has breakfast , or they might have, at most, a pastry and an espresso while they are on the go. Lunch is always pasta first, then a meat / fish course and salad, then unless it's a high day or holiday, they finish with fruit. Suppers are often vegetable based. So they may appear to eat more but they don't and what they do eat is healthy. Remember, too, that olive oil is used for nearly all cooking and butter is NEVER served with bread. Italians also drink considerably less alcohol than British people.
Such a lovely Italian meal!! I ate it a lot last year when I was interrailing in Italy - very refreshing! Don't know why I don't eat it now I'm home...
Hi, Clare. Nice to meet you. Yes, I could eat this happily every day in summer!
