MODICA GETS PREPARED

From Saturday, for just over one week, our little town will be very important in Sicily, as, for the third time, Modica hosts the Eurochocolate Festival. So there was much bustle and activity in Modica Bassa when I was down there yesterday morning. During this festival the town really comes into its own and shows how well it can organise and stage events when it tries: there will be tastings, exhibitions, lectures, films and even a beauty parlour featuring products made with chocolate! Free transport from this district to Modica Bassa is provided and everyone is happy and proud of their town. The theme this year is chocolate and films because someone has had the bright idea that a bar of chocolate, divided into sections, resembles a roll of film. Personally, I think that is quite brilliant and innovative. I have written about Modica's most famous chocolate maker here and there is some more information in Italian about the festival here and , in English, here.

Not sure if the last comment posted, but I said my wife would think she was in heaven there during the festival.

Hi, Steve. The internet connection here has gone a bit funny tonight so that may account for you thinking your comment didn't arrive. I think you would both like the featival - your wife, like me, for the chocs and you for the atmosphere!

I look forward to your further posts on this coming event, Welsh. It sounds like it's going to lots of fun and excitement.

Mmmmm, chocolate. What a wonderful idea having a chocolate festival on a theme like that. We have a Welsh foods 'festival' on a small scale around St David's Day but it's all cockles and fish and bara brith. Not a chocolate in sight!

And, Ellee, chocolate in any quantity is poisonous for dogs!

Ellee, I was going to say you can't give choc to dogs but others have beaten me to it! Never mind - Simi will have some other very special treats. Mr N, bad girls have more fun! I do know what it's like to be 47 in an office and trying to resist temptation!! I'm sure it's all worth it for your son and before you know it you'll be coming abroad with him! Lee, Liz, WW, I'll post photos after the next time I get down to "Bassa" - probably midweek.

Impeccable Sicilian logic there. Chocolate festival indeed.

That's one party I would love to attend!

Surprisingly enough, my sister-in-law believes chocolate is safe for dogs and makes sure her dog has a piece every day.

Our nickname for this dog, by the way, is "Mr. Poopy Butt." He seems to have built up an immunity to the choclate, but you certainly don't want him sitting on your couch.

I want to be there!!!! I love Sicily and I love chocolate but it has to be cioccolato fondente.. My husband once brought me chocolate from Barcelona it was 90% cocoa....you didn't need to each much of that in one sitting...

Hi, James. Yes, the logic's rather good, isn't it? Bonnie, I'd love to see "Mr Poopy Butt"! Hi, anne. Yes, the pure choc made here is very strong for British tastes. you get used to it, though!
