Sorry, Welshcakes, I am stumped. 'In case of breakdown take a seat, this is Sicily - de la patience!"? Nice bentwood chair, though, with intact woven cane seat ... we spotted a typist's chair alone and loitering (+ unsecured) outside apartment block just down the road last year. So we, er, liberated it (I am parked upon it as I type)!
Nice suggestion, Phidelm! I'm glad you liberated the typist's chair! Hi, Lost. I've been along there at different times of the day but haven't seen anyone. Sometimes the vegetable sellers sit on the other side of the road to their vans for a bit of shade but no one sells from near that spot. I will keep investigating! IT could, of course, be someone who just likes watching the world go by.
So nice to see your blog is working here in Italy Mdm. Welshcakes! That is a curious thing about the chair. At first I wondered if it were a homeless persons chair, but after reading your comments I don't think so!
I'm a sort-of retired language teacher from Cardiff, Wales, UK, now trying to make a new life in Sicily. I'm not growing vines, making olive oil or restoring a palace stone by stone!

Someone must be sitting here on a regular basis, now you have to find out who and tell us!
