MY MOVING TALES

My new friend eurodog has expressed an interest in the story of how I brought Simi here. It occurred to me that other readers who have not been following the blog from the beginning might be interested, too, especially if they are pet owners and / or are thinking of moving abroad themselves. I chronicled it all last May and June in the weeks leading up to the first anniversary of our arrival here. I didn't have many [any!] readers then and wasn't getting any comments. Here are the links:
UPDATE: The words of Robert Browning to which I refer in the first instalment are:
Open my hear and you will see
Graved inside of it, "Italy."
Such lovers old are I and she;
So it always was, so shall ever be!
- From "De Gustibus-"

Yes, that is true, I will come back to them and read them in depth later.
I just wondered if you were going to fully embrace Sicilian life by starting to ride a scooter - with a well strapped in Simi riding pillion.

Thank you very much for these tales which I enjoyed reading as well. What a stressful time it must have been.
Dogs are quite though really but we are not.
Belle is 10 years old and we adopted her just as the passport for pets was being introduced. It must have been 7 or 8 years ago. Our vet speaks little English so we did all the research on the internet as the Belgian Ministery of Health was more than useless. We had to take her to England so it was crucial that all the paperwork and the vaccinations especially the rabbies one were in order and the bloodtest showing rabbies antibodies. On the given day, we set off and when we arrived in Calais we proudly showed Belle's papers. It must have been the P&O's clerk first encounter with the European passport. I was very nervous and so was he for some reason but it all went well and now we go through without any difficulty. Yes, everytime we go the vet has to sign the passport and give worming and anti tick medicine but that is nothing compared to the initial procedure.

Thank you for having the patience to read them, Steve. Hi, Ellee. No, I can't see me on a scooter though Simi would love to have a go! Hi, eurodog. Yes, I think our animals take it all much more in our stride than we do. Belle sounds lovely and you have a great pic of her on your blog. I do empathise with what you had to go through that first time. I thought Simi would have to have annual rabies injections once we were here but the vet says Sicily is clear of rabies and so they are not necessary, though they would be on the mainland. Hi, James. Yes, I think eurodog and Belle are nice new friends for both of us. Ellee, you are too kind!

I would say Simi has assimiliated into your new "home" as easily as you have, Welsh. :)
