This is a wild guess. Maybe it's for taking bread out of the oven? The arms go in the two pockets? Although the fabric doesn't look heavy enough to offer much protection from the heat.
Pazienza, Cherie! Close, Anne. Well done, Lord S! A good guess, Betty. Ciao, Nanni. OK. Both good ideas, WW. Spot on, Mopsa!
The farm labourer or farmer travelling to inspect all his fields would sling this cloth over the mule's back and in the pockets he would put his food for the week.
I'm a sort-of retired language teacher from Cardiff, Wales, UK, now trying to make a new life in Sicily. I'm not growing vines, making olive oil or restoring a palace stone by stone!

I seem to be completely out of ideas on this one!
Don't know the name of it, but it looks like a holder for something. You slip it over an arm, and put things in it...most probably miles away ha ha
Looks like it belongs on the back of a horse or donkey.

i am working on the brand, i will uptodate you about it soon..
Take care
Nanni
Not sure if it's an oven glove or a handy device for an olive picker
Gotta be panniers/saddlebags for a donkey/mule. Very stylish. I'd love a mule with or without the saddlebags.
