Very interesting. When we lived there from 1968-71 there were quite a few horse drawn carriages or carts sharing the roads with cars. Is that still true?

At first I was going to say "pooper scooper" but then decided to guess something to do with removing ashes from the fireplace.
It looks like a bicycle peddle, but I know it isn't one of those...
My first thought was a boot scraper, but it looks like it's situated up a bit too high on the wall for boots...
