I had never seen the cheese on the left, which is imported from Holland, here before today: it is called "
pesto cheese" and
pesto is what it tastes like. "What is the point?" you may well ask, "as
pesto is mostly just cheese with basil." Well, this is true but it does look rather interesting and, of course, the texture is different. Next to it is a local, peppered,
caciocavallo cheese.

It does look interesting! Have you ever tried that cheese with the rusty orange covering that's from bugs? I heard it's really good but I don't know if I could get past the bug thing...
I think it looks delicious, well I do like to try different cheeses :-)
Looks interesting but not for me..two years ago I worked on a deli counter..and had to try cheese with other tastes added..not nice...I don't really like fruit in cheese..I don;t like a cheese called Mexicano..apparently quite popular. We also have a cheese called Sage Derby, it is dreadful..Pesto is great, love it, cheese is good, but not together, well not for me!
I love cheese! And I'd love to taste that pesto cheese someday.
I'm sure I would have bought that cheese too Welshcakes for the colour alone. Nothing wrong with the flavour of pesto so I am sure it tastes delicious.
And here I thought I'd seen everything. If a shop in Sicily is importing pesto cheese then I do hope to find something just as interesting at the shop that we plan to visit today at Lago Maggiore.
I ♥ cheese!
Bit of a traditionalist myself.
Stilton, Red Leicester and Wensleydale are my favourite.
Pesto. Yum.
Well, I would try it. It looks healthy, and as Italians like it I think I would to. "It's a Wonderful Life" in Sicily.
Hi, pink. No, I'm too scared of bugs! It really is very nice, Cherie. I'm sure you'd like it. Hi, Anne. I've decided I quite like it! Ciao, Sassy Mom. It is surprisingly good. Hi, jmb. Yes, it was the colour that attracted me. I hope you do find something new in that shop, Rowena, and post about it! This cheese is made by a Dutch company called Basiron. Hi, O&A. I like the Stilton they do with apricots in it. My favourite Brit cheese is Red Windsor. Hi, James. I'm sure you'd like this. You, too, Dr CW. I'm sure it is healthy, too.
Now that sounds like it should be delicious. I love cheese, I love basil so together they should be marvellous!
I agree, jams!
I have to disagree with Anne. I haven't had Sage Derby cheese in years but my memory of it was that I loved it. I'd have a go with pesto cheese, as long as I know that it's green color was not due to any enhancing food color. I like additions to cheeses, but yes some of the combos don;t work for me either.
Hi, Bella. I, too, would try most new cheeses provided they don't have artificial colouring.
