THINGS TO COME

It is still a pleasure to be able to order fresh fruit in the simplest bar and have it served prettily. The trouble taken over the presentation of this dish of the freshest strawberries, bananas and a little strawberry ice cream at the Altro Posto at lunchtime made my day and reminded me of all the glorious gelati to come in a couple of months' time.

And you are sure, Welsh, you are fair? Hardly can't swallow as fast as my mouth waters. :)

Strawberries are starting to arrive here, from California but still. Looks delicious and just hits the spot I'm sure.

Brightened my day, made me think of summer and Sicily.

It is so dismal here, not cold and fresh, but gale force winds and rain...yuk

Ohhh, I love gelati and lovely fruit. Speaking of gelati, I was in Sicily last March and saw the preparation of a large scoop of gelati placed inside a bun or bread roll for a customer. I had read about this in a guide book but decided not to try it since it was so big. I don't know what the preparation is called. Have you tried it? Bread and gelati isn't something I would normally think of as a combination.

Enjoy welchcakes ;the only place to have gelati here at the moment is at the fireside. Temperature is 2deg today and I was kept awake last night by gale force winds. Oh; and it has just started to snow. Remember your red high heel shoes would not like it!!

Adorable. Why the gelati in a month's time? Why not now? We have our ice cream all year round.

Sorry, Sean! Hi, jmb. Yes, Sicilian strawberries taste quite different to the ones we get in the UK. Hi, Anne. Glad I brightened your day! Ciao, flutterby. Yes, ice cream or granita served in or with a brioche is a speciality of Palermo and is served all over Sicily as a summer breakfast - you must try it next time! Hi, MM. Yes, when I think of snow I will bear the probable fate of the shoes in mind! Hope you have a good fire going there.

Hi, James. Because food is very seasonal here and although you can get ice cream all year round, the bars don't make their own or have a wide variety of flavours until about May.

The best gelati I had was in Orvieto where I tried pinoli. Oh my goodness, it was so good that nothing else will do for me anymore.

We are not jealous, oh no, we are just turning a gentle shade of green because the colour suits Shirl.

Leslie, Ellee, Shirl & Lola, Ruthie: Sorry, I thought I'd replied before. Leslie, that must have been some ice cream! Ellee, I do hope you can get over here soon and try some of these desserts! Shirl and Lola, lovely to hear from you both. You like ice cream, Lola? Ruthie, one day you will come over and try these too!
