SCHMOOZE

You may have noticed the above button sneaking into the sidebar yesterday: Schmooze is a word I first saw on jmb's blog, and I admit I initially misread it, thinking, "Snooze? This blog sends no one to sleep and if it did, why would the blogger draw attention to the fact?" Then I looked again and of course the excellent jmb tells us the etymology [orig. Yiddish - to chat informally or in a friendly way]. Then I saw the icon over at Crushed's and now it has come my way via Lord-Straf-whoever-James-is-at-the-moment and thank you very much! So now I have to nominate 5 bloggers for this "spirit of blogging" award too. [Only 5? That's difficult. ] Well:

1. Lady Macleod is a "must" read for me: she brings her exotic life in Morocco to you in a very conversational style so that you feel you are there. She has many commenters, some of whom are Moroccan and shed further light on the issues she raises and she always replies to them.

2. Lee of Kitchen Connection always tells you exactly how she feels and I think it is partly her honesty that attracts so many comments. She replies diligently to them all and visits many other blogs. While you're there, take a look at her art work and food photos!

3. M of Laughter, Loving and Living writes straight from her young heart and always asks her readers what they think. She has a lively, honest conversation with them and is a loyal commenter on other blogs.

4. Liz from Swansea is, understandably, not feeling very bright at the moment, I know, but she has a lovely, conversational style whether she is discussing day to day life or religion, news and occasionally politics. She gets around to others, too, and her comments often give a new "take" on a subject. I often read them and wonder, "Why couldn't I think of that?"

5. Chris of Where Does the Time Go? is a new read of mine. Again, I love her easy, friendly style and feel as if I am chatting to her over a cup of tea. Take a look at her clever quotes above each post, too.

So now you new "schmoozers" need to choose 5 bloggers each to pass the award on to!

It's only just occurred to me that my choices are all women - well, various people have written in the past week that the blogosphere is dominated by men, so maybe that's not a bad thing!

(IT WON'T TAKE STRIKEOUT TAGS)

It's hard to be able to limit it to five, but the good thing is, you know the ones you leave out will porably get one from the ones you nominate.

Is the blogosphere dominated by men? I had not noticed - I prefer the ladies...like you, obviously... if I were a cat I would purr and entwine around your legs...

Hi, Shades! Have a good hol! Crushed, you are right. Careful, Mutley, or I might agree to that!

That is very kind of you, Welsh...thank you. Certainly was a nice way to commence my day! :)

I would like to thank the members of the Academy... no wait that's for another occasion.

Thank you! I am honored. I am so pleased it is NOT snoozed. (yikes)

It is made more special to be nominated by someone of your caliber in the blogsphere. I shall try to continue to deserve your praise.

and WHAT timing, this day just keeps on going..

Indeed, you rightly deserve the Schmooze award! I followed your link through Anne in Oxfordshire and of course, bulged eyeballs when I read the post on the sicilian food below. Haven't been to the island (yet), but hope to get a better glimpse through your blog!

Congratulations WCLC, you deserve it. Not only for your posts but for your comments which you graciously leave after your visits. You have just the right comment touch, no matter what the blog. When I am struck dumb I notice you come up with just the perfect comment.

I thought the blogosphere was dominated by women actually, although not Blogpower obviously. I have absolutely no statistics for this, but thought I read it somewhere. Now I'll have to see if I can find a reference one way or the other.
regards
jmb

Schmoozer Gal, Schmoozer Gal,
You've always been such a super pal,
But now you're out there who knows where,
Men at your feet, their hearts despair.

Keep her on a leash, Simi!

My pleasure, Lee. Lady M, you are. as always, kind. Thanks for the link to the article about Port Merion. To my shame, I 've never been there but I do have some PM pottery. Nice to meet you, Rowena and thank you. Do consider a visit to Sicily! Hi, jmb. Thank you - I am flattered. It'll be interesting to see what statistics you can find.
James, Simi says:
"Uncle James, whate'er the trend
my mummy knows you are her friend.
It's true she is a naughty girl
but I control her social whirl!"
x woof! Simi

Am I allowed to "schmooze" you back, Welsh (I'm not really that way inclined...in case you're wondering!) or have you already been "schmoozed" and one is allowed to be "schmoozed" only once?

I'm confused about all this schmoozing! ;)

Hi, Lee. No, I'm not either! I think you can only be scmozzed once - but don't worry about it.

What a lovely 'welcome home' present from my short break in Welsh Wales! Congratulations on your very well-deserved award and thank you so much for nominating me. Although I've been blogging for a little while now (sometimes a bit intermittently) I still feel like a newcomer so it's very comforting when others visit me more than once! Shows I'm not a complete idiot.

Will catch up on the rest of your posts tomorrow. Need a good night's sleep now after the horrors of the M4 journey home.

Hi, Chris. My pleasure - you are an excellent blogger. Interested to hear you've been in Welsh Wales - will be over soon to see if you've posted about it. Auguri.

Thank you so much for this, Welshcakes!

Like you, when I first saw the award on others' blogs, I thought it was something to do with sleeping; I am very pleased to know it's not!

It's true that Blogpower is a manly group but I would have said there are more women than men blogging - for pleasure certainly, as opposed to - hm, what? Men blog with a purpose in mind while women do it simply to communicate. As in life maybe.

I got one of these nice things from Crushed. Part of the problem with these meme thingys is that I am a little embarrassed to impose on others. I will get to it one of these days.

Hi, Liz. That's a fgood point about women blogging to communicate about... whatever. Hi, CC. I get embarrassed about passing them on, too, and I get in a state about getting the various buttons and banners on! But it's nice to be recognised by one's peers.
