ORIGANO DI SICILIA


This is how we buy dried oregano here. [I think I am right in saying that it is the only herb which has more flavour when dried than when fresh.] So you crumble it into a jar yourself or, of course, directly onto food .

Yes WL it is because of its high oil content,that it retains its flavour and aroma when dried. But it does lose its pungency after a while. I use both..have dried as a standby.

Hi, Anne. I use both, too, but the dried version here is much stronger than that which you find in the UK.

What sort of flavour is it, it's not something I've come across.
It looks a bit like seaweed.

You've just reminded me of some chicken I was going to cook for dinner tonight with some fresh oregano. Only I had chocolate brownies instead. I wih I hadn't I am still hungry.

I've got oregano growing in my little plot. My marjoram and rosemary are huge...they just keep expanding and expanding!

I just adore oregano in meat sauces. I need to try your sauces.

You know you are right WCLC, but I had never thought of it before. I grow oregano but never think to harvest it, just use the dry in cooking. However I never use dried rosemary but always run out and pick it from my little bushes which struggle so bravely in this climate. Basil is a dead loss here, just not warm enough so I have to spend a fortune when I want to buy fresh.

Hi, Crushed. I suppose that's because it is so dry. It tastes a bit like thyme and I'm sure you've come across it in pizza! It smelle - well, Italian! I'll bet the brownies were good, Ellee!
