The Ice cream parlor opened here a couple of weeks ago. That time of the year.
My son has just finished the ice cream here too, the season for this never ends.
What about the granita? When does it arrive?
I remember as a kid that ice cream was a very seldom treat. We had no refrigerator until I was about 11, just an ice chest with ice man two or three times a week.

Their icecream is nothing like ours!!! And the granita is heaven. :-)
Ours is run by a couple of Italian brothers, who go home in winter and return when it warms up. All kinds of ice cream for cones, little cups and things like Banana splits, fruit cups, etc. Very popular with the local residents.
Ah, now Welshcakes - we eat ours in minus 20 but to be honest, not so much in minus 30 - it glues the lips together.

Ah, yet again the glories of the blogosphere are made evident. Without your post I should have had no idea that ice cream could or would be a seasonal product. I am so used to picking up a pint of Ben & Jerry's whenever the mood strikes that the idea of seasonality never crossed my mind.

Steve, how sensible of the Ital brothers to go home in the cold of winter and then return. Thanks for describing your ice cream parlour there. Do you know where the brothers are from? Are real ice-cream...nothing better! I only eat rich, creamy vanilla or chocolate, though. It's available all year 'round here.
Hi, anon. Granita is basically flavoured, crushed ice. You make the flavouring from a syrup. My favourite is jasmine. They are very refreshing in summer and in Palermo are served imside a brioche.
Hi, Lee. You can get ice cream in the supermarkets all year round here and they are very good, but you can't get freshly made ones in bars and restaurants in winter.
I will happily eat ice cream year-round. But that looks good, and since it's seasonal, I bet it tastes better than anything here in Southern California.
I don't know, Bonnie, as I've never tasted your ice cream ! Only been to USA once, to Nevada, and I was so excited when some friends took me to Tahoe and we crossed the state line into California! So I could say I'd been there, if only for a few minutes! I remember they made great Margaritas on Tahoe, so maybe that makes up for it if the ice cream isn't so good!
