I've shown you the Altro Posto's veal escalopes with mushrooms before, but not, I think, with this delightful contorno [accompaniment] of peas, tiny cubes of ham, chopped onion and sweetcorn, gently sweated in olive oil. As I've mentioned, there is no issue around eating veal in Italy - if you eat meat, it is hard to avoid.

I love veal parmagiana.
It's not surprising - the steak's so tough! Bistecca alla Fiorentina's supposed to be very tender, though. Have you tried it?
Looks colorful, but I can't abide by peas. Just me. I like corn.
I'm a bit squeamish about eating veal, but this certainly looks scrummy.
Hi WCLC,
I remember I left a comment on this post yesterday. I notice you have comment moderation. Did it not pass the standards or a technical glitch or? If it's queued and gets through just delete this one.

Me, too, James. For those who don't like eating veal, pork fillet is an excellent substitute. Mostly in restaurants I've worked and cooked in that is what they use as it is guaranteed to be tender and easy to access. Sometimes veal is difficult to come by, depending on the season etc.
Hi, James. Me, too. WW, yes, a fiorentina cut is tender. I can never get through all of one, though! It is a speciality of the trattoria round the corner on Sundays. Hi, Steve. I'm not a lover of peas but I like them mixed with other veg like this. Ellee, veal is ubiquitous here. Lee, thanks for the info. Jmb, I didn't receive a comment from you on this post yesterday so it's probably a technical thing again. I've only ever rejected one comment, because it was abusive about another blogger.
Seeing this pic has just reminded me I have to prepare dinner now as I have to be out at a PR event soon, and I forgot all about preparing my family's dinner before leaving.
Well WCLC, I tried to leave a comment again yesterday and this time I saw some technical message come up which said it didn't work. I must be a jinx.
Anyway I'll just try to say for the third time that the veal in Italy is great, the contorni not so great. They overcook the vegetables as far as I'm concerned. Mia consuocera (my daughter's mother in law) always takes some vegetables out early for the canadesi when we stay with her.
Trying again, I'm a determined woman. Hate to give up.

Ellee, that's a mark of your success! jmb, I don't think it's you; it's blogger again - it went down completely this afternoon. They don't overcook the contorni in Modica, in my experience. Did you come here? Anyway, it's always good to hear from you and thanks for persevering!
