I have just taken the Marks & Spencer trousers I bought last week over to the little tailor's shop to be shortened. They will be ready by Friday. I am always pleasantly surprised by how easy and quick it is to get such alterations done here, as in Britain these days it is quite difficult to find someone who will do them.

Now I am not a seamstress, but I can manage turning up a hem by hand. However, if it is a special fabric, it is always best to have the job done professionally.
Hi, Ellee. I can just about do a hem by hand but on trousers it's difficult to get it level if you've no one to pin them up for you while you try them on! In this case there was a lot of fabric to cut off [they only had the "long" size and I was in a hurry!] and the material was dodgy too.
That's true, I usually find another pair of trousers to measure them up against. And you will need your trousers now with autumn upon us - finally in the UK, at least.
