PALERMO IS SECOND COFFEE CAPITAL OF ITALY

myspace layouts

Palermo, according to the Milan Chamber of Commerce and Istat [the Italian Statistics Office] is second only to Naples for the number of coffee manufacturers in the city:  Naples has 69 [6.2% of the national total] whilst Palermo has 47 and Sicily as a whole 70.

In Modica we have the headquarters of Caffè Moak and on some mornings the delicious aroma of roasting coffee beans pervades the modern Sorda area where I live.  This, of course, sends me scuttling to the nearest bar for my wake-up fix of espresso.

One of the greatest compliments I've received here was when a friend's husband told me I make a good espresso - "per un essere inglese" ["for a British personage"].

per un essere inglese

Does that not mean, WCL, "for someone who is English"? :)

Does this mean that your tea time has been replaced by espresso?

"Inglese" is used indiscriminately for "English" and for "British", James. "Britannico" is seldom used for people.
It always was, Rosaria!

I have never cared for espresso myself. I would not make a good Italian!

My favourite store in London is the Algerian Coffee Store in Soho

I've always preferred it. I will look up that store now, jams.

Never would've expected to see Palermo at second place! And I agree about the 'inglese' thing, for Italians it's used for both English and British, unfortunately. I'm trying to educate the Italians I know but it's a tough battle!

Oh, and the pair of Moka look like mine, a little Junior Express and a big Bialetti!

I'm sure your espresso is better than his tea

I sent a message to Wichester whisperer thanks for alerting me. I don't know how to help with the problem. Claire

A losing battle if it's anything like here, Nerys! But I'll never give up. I'm glad we've got similar caffettiere. I'll tell him that, WW. Hi, Claire. I'm not techie enough to resolve the problem either, I'm afraid.
