It was with great sorrow that I learned this week of the death of Yvonne ["Von"] Hadley-Jones, known to and loved by many as the "Devonshire Dumpling" of  No Clue blog.

Although I never met Von, I counted her as a friend and she was a very kind person:  when she was losing her hearing, she sent me some of her CDs as she wanted her favourite music to continue to be appreciated and when this single life got me down, she understood and was there for me.

Von's dry humour as a blogger put many a bureaucrat and politician in their place and I shall miss her observations on life in a part of the UK where I spent many happy childhood holidays.

Arrivederci, Von - I shall think of you every time I play Bocelli.   You give 'em what for up there, now!

Sally in Norfolk has more details of Von's last illness and Posh Totty has a fine tribute here.

I don't think any of us realized just how kind and caring she was :-)

I'm sure that's true, Sally. She did some very kind deeds, very quietly. xx

I am so saddened by this news. I have been trying to contact Von through text and e-mail since Christmas of last year. She had gotten a bit snarky with me a few months prior but in the twelve years we have been friends I learned to let her be and wait for a "Sod off Slag Heap" as a cue that we were still friends. However, regardless of how many times I tried to get a response from her, she never replied. Finally yesterday I had a sinking feeling and did a Google search which brought me here....If anyone could put me in touch with Sue I would appreciate it. My e-mail is and my name is Laurie Effinger. Sue knows who I am and we have spoken on the phone once or twice. I feel just terrible that over a year later and I have just found this information...I'd like to send flowers or do something to honor my snarky and wonderful friend Von.

Oh, Laurie, I'm so sorry you had to find out like this. I still miss Von. I'll email you later. Love, Pat
