TWO OF LIFE'S SMALL PLEASURES

It's the citrus fruit season in Sicily and I never tire of marvelling at the freshness of the fruit available or at being able to buy it with the leaves still attached:

Last night, as Simi and I were coming home from our walk, Orazio the hairdresser called me and gave me a bag of chestnuts that he had picked. It was such a kind gesture and it really cheered me up on a cold, November evening.

Hi WL you do have wonderful kind people around you :-) When I was in Sicily I bought citrus fruit just because of the leaves being attached :-)

I am getting more and more jealous. I would kill for chestnuts and I love fruit with its leaves still intact. It’s no good – I will simply have to emigrate.

At Christmas I buy clemtines - but only if the leaves are with them. Lucky, lucky you.

They do look after you well over there. Those oranges look gorgeous. I hope your writing is going well.

I love roast chestnuts. One of my particular weaknesses.

They call the Marroni in Germany. Mmmmmmmmmmm....
