PRESUMPTIOUS POPPIES

I love poppies. Long ago, "Poppy" was a lover's nickname for me. So to see these daringly flowering by a Sicilian wall on a main road just made my day. I thought I would snap them before they are ruthlessly cut down by the Comune's machinery, along with the best of the orange blossom. [This has to be done, of course, to protect us from fire, which can spread like mad in the heat, which seems to be upon us from today.]

Poppies are a reminder. So fragile and yet they proliferate.

Lovely photo Welshcakes. Poppies are pretty indestructible. Once you plant them in your garden they seed themselves everywhere.

Arh...Welshcakes..'Poppy, as a term of endearment for you, really has a 'ring' to it. Judging by the perceived knowledge I have of you, the 'pet name' seems most suitable.
Lovely.

My first husband used to call me 'Mrs Elephant', which was attributed to my, (apparently, 'colossus) memory).
That was to his rue in the Divorce Courts, believe me!

It is so easy to forget lost loves.

Oooh! I feel another yarn coming on..Think I'm hearing a waltz again!

Love to you and Simi.
Chloe and I are having a 'chill out' day, all the kids have gone home and DT is playing golf, so, peace reigns,(as does the sky), here!

That is a lovely picture - delicate, colorful poppies against a rough stone wall. Perfect.

Lovely Poppies, shame they have to be cut down!! At least it is for a good reason.

Lovely foretaste to what will soon please my eyes. There will be lots of few poppies along the boundary ridges and, 'of course' in our garden.
Have a lovely week, Welsh.

Yes, James. What is it about them that is so evocative? Hi, jmb. I used to have some in my garden in the Uk - but they did not flower everywhere, perhaps because I am so hopeless as a gardener! Many thanks, Trubes. What a gossip we would have if we met! Oh, a waltz! That must be OK, then! Thanks, flutterby. Hi, anne. There is, at least, that. Gosh, nunyaa. You don't have them there?? Hi, Liz. Glad you like them, too. Thanks, Sean. Your garden sounds lovely. Have a good week, too.

There was one poppy bush in my garden the first year I was here and last year there were two. I must go out and check to see if they've multiplied again. They do look like weeds when not in flower, though.
