CONFESSION - 2

Then to lunch at Il Cortiletto in Modica Bassa with Irma and Gina. It is quite something for Sicilian women to come out to lunch without their husbands so I did appreciate it. As you see, Irma remembered to bring along something very important! Cincin a tutti, said I! We each had a plate of these magnificent antipasti to ourselves, then decided to have the beautifully cooked coniglio alla Modicana [rabbit ]. It was all superb.

What a feast. Tell me, do the Italians/Sicilians celebrate birthdays in the same way. I know in Greece they prefer to celebrate name days.

Sorry, Lee! Hi, Ellee. Birthdays aren't that important here and they don't bother with cards much. A plant or flowers are often given to friends, though. Yes, name days tend to be celebrated with family feasts.

Cheers and Happy Birthday. Gin and Tonic has to be my favourite drink. Great way to start a lunch. Very popular in the can here in Australia, but nothing to beat freshly poured.
