"When it's night time in Italy
it's Wednesday over here
All the onions in Sicily
make people cry in California"
- I still have my Everly Brothers vinyl with that song on it and, after all these years, it still cheers me up!
No onions to show you today, but a table of fennel and young artichokes at our pleasant new greengrocer's.

Modica Bassa looks so romantic and what an interesting little house you stayed in!

Hi, Tea. Simi says thanks for your congrats! Yes, it was a pretty little house and very characteristic. [Not suitable for a much longer stay, though - not for a woman with over 900 ornaments and at least 5000 books on the way!] But it was a lifeline to us when we needed it and I'll never be able to thank my friends here enough. Be having a good weekend. Luv, Simi and me.
I hope you grabbed yourself some of those baby artichokes, Welsh! Yum!
I sure did, Lee!
No brussel sprouts on sale?
I have never tried an artichoke
What do they taste like, do you just have them as a vegetable or use them in a recipe ?????
No brussels sprouts at the moment, Ellee, though they were around at Xmas and you can get frozen ones in the freezer centre [which is nothing like a British one, btw]. Personally, I can't stand sprouts or cabbage so it doesn't bother me. Sally, how to describe the taste of an artichoke.. somewhat bitter but with a lemony aftertaste, a bit like eating endive. They can be used in recipes but I prefer to use the antipasto ones preserved in oil for that. I like artichokes roasted the Sicilian way; you just suck the juice.
I'm stealing the top photo.
OK!
I love it! I haven't listened to the Everly Brothers in a long time.
Hi, Bonnie. I kept all my vinyls. The Everly Bros sure take me back!
