STROMBOLI STOPS SMOKING

I am not referring to the volcano, however:  It seems that the only tobacconist in the little village of Ginostra on the island applied to have his licence renewed six months ago but has received no response.  Therefore it will be impossible to buy cigarettes in the village from Easter and, Italian bureaucracy being what it is, this situation may continue into the summer tourist season.

The 40 or so villagers are protesting to the government and are urging tourists to do the same.  Personally, I think they should leave things as they are!

Whether one is in favour of smoking or not the delay in the licence is incompetence on a 1arge scale

Oh, if you smoke, you need that fix, will do anything for it, and you will not stop until you get some.

As I am a smoker, this would give me a problem. But it would also be an excellent opportunity :)

I agree with you when you say that they should leave things are they are. Nice blog. Greetings from Montreal, Canada.

My goodness, how will they cope.?Helpful if they were considering giving up but doubt all 40 of them were, and a big shock to tourists who arrive and finish their last packet.

This is so Italian beaurocracy :)

No cigarettes but won't the smokers be angry and frustrated without their weed?

Sounds to me like it would be nicer as it is! :)

Sounds a good idea to me too! Can you imagine the uproar in Cardiff if it happened there?!

Hi, jams. It's normal in Italy - for everything! Hi, Rosaria. Sadly that is so. Hi, Josep. I suppose it would be! Hello, Wren and thank you. Greetings from Modica. Hi, Daydreamer. Goodness knows how they will manage! Hi, Cuby. I imagine so. Glad you agree, Rachel. There'd be a revolution, Liz.
