AN IMPROMPTU LUNCH

Like all Sicilians, my friend Marco never visits without bringing a gift so when he unexpectedly rang my doorbell just now, he presented me with freshly made focaccia and pasticcio from a local rosticceria and some oranges from his garden:

The pasticcio is filled with broccoli and onion.

What a pleasant lunch I am about to have!

I bet it was lovely!

I am not feeling very inspired today as the news of yet another natural disaster has left me feeling rather sad.

Mother Nature seems to be in turmoil.

Oooo don't make me hungry. Did I tell you of the time I had McDonalds' impression of a "foccacia" I'm not one of those über-bourgeois italianesque obsessives who gets all uptight about my vinegar being "balsamic" but honestly this was the most vulgar travesty of food I think I remember experiencing from a major "restaurant chain"..! Know what I mean.

Those lemons make me crave my favourite drink: juice of one lemon squeezed into a glass. Ice-cold spring water chucked on top (ideally sparkling), 3 spoons of sugar stirred in. Yummmy yum yum and you're lucky enouh to be able to pick that in the garden, providing there's no poisonous snakes or tarantulas up the tree. You know what foreign lands are like. I bet you had snake and scorpion phobia moving to Sicily, didn't you? Come on you're as British as I am!

And here's my message to Simi: Woof-woof-oof oany-groany bone bo o o!

She'll know what I'm talking about.

The clementines out here in Madeira are to kill for... English ones will never be the same :-(

Hi, Gleds. Thanks for sharing your McDo story! Your drink sounds very good. Well, I don't have a garden but my friends do. I must admit it was the thought of larger spiders that worried me most but so far I've only been bothered by geckos! Simi says "woofy-woofy-woo-wow-wow1" xx
Hi, Sally. I know exactly what you mean.

O Pat you're making me hungry AGAIN.

I had a very ripe lemon I'd saved for today that I cut in half and with 3 teaspoons of sugar and a glass of cold water it made fantastic home made cloudy lemonade. I'm getting Value Sparkling Spring Water or even Perrier to be posh to make very nice home-made lemonade.

Helen Mirren is playing The Queen on my TV.

I can tell why I'd not make a good PM. I'd be more into "how to start a nuclear war" and "where do the secret passageways go?" than the boring crap of Government. I would refuse to read the papers and not bother trying to get in for a second term. When I wanted to get out a message I'd shoot myself speaking straight to camera and refuse utterly any type of interview and people could think what they pleased. (They'll think what they like anyhow.)

Message II to Simi: Ooof! OOF! Woof-woof. Bo!

Oh I forgot when you've squeezed out the lemon by hand (you don't need a lemon squeezer) you sprinkle sugar over what's left in each half, shove it in the fridge for half an hour and it's absolutely lovely ;-)

Hi, Gleds. The drink sounds absolutely delicious. You certainly have an original take on the job of being PM - perhaps you could write to Cameron with a few suggestions?

No, not the first, WW. The citrus fruit season will end soon.
