.... to make tomato sauce. They have just been delivered by the gentleman from our baracca [roadside stall] greengrocer's. You order your pomodori per conserve [tomatoes for preserves, ie., to make your stock of tomato sauce for the coming year] and he rings you when they arrive. You go down to inspect them, and if you like the look of them, he will deliver them to your home, free of charge. When you have emptied the crates, he will even come back and collect them. On his advice, I have mixed the types of tomatoes and included a crate of cherry ones, "per rendere più dolce la salsa, signora" ["to make the sauce sweeter"]. And the cost of this lot? 15 euros. Must get the tomato squashing machine out tomorrow!

Look at those beauties! Our tomatoes (from Ripley, Tenn arguably the most favored in this region) aren't quite in season yet but I look forward to it as well. Happy Sauce Making!
Not only that they look good; that's a fair prize.
I think I remember you did already last year, but will there be a recipe again, Welshcakes, and a detailed decription of the whole procedure, which I hope you will enjoy?
You will be busy!!
Excellent service from your roadside greengrocer, now that is what I call a service, how brilliant. x
You continually re-affirm for me that you live in heaven! And the quality of those toms! Do you have a specific recipe you word towards?
We're growing tomatoes this year! We have 5 different varieties and are hoping they'll ripen at different times so we won't be overloaded. But...I am looking forward to making a tomato and avocado salad drizzled with balsamic vinagraitte. Hope yours turn out well.
Hi, Michelle. Thanks for your good wishes. Do you make sauce over there? Hi, Sean. I didn't make any last year so I need to make up for that! Just for you, I'll post the recipe. Hi, Anne. Yes, great service. It's always packed at his stall. Thanks, mg. Yes, I'll re-post the recipe!
Ah, great, Lady Limoncello! Looking forward to that.
How long do you think the sauce will last?
Mmm, delicious.
You're very busy there, Leslie. The salad sounds delicious. Tomorrow, I hope, Sean. About a year, WW. Thanks, Liz.
Wow, look at those tomatoes. Delicious. I stay in India and one of the big joys is ggetting to eat fresh fruit and vegetables for which you don't even have to go to the market. There will be vendors on moving carts coming right to your doorstep. But must say, these tomatoes look much prettier than our! Do read my blog on food and travel in India http://indiafoodandtravelguide.com/my-trip-to-goa
Hi, Tashan. Nice to meet you. I've always wanted to go to India and I am interested in Indian food. I get friends in the Uk to send me the spices to make it. So I will certainly read your blog.
