The new England football manager has promised to learn English within a month. All I can say is that I'd love to know who his English tutor will be, for anyone who has taught or learned a foreign language knows that it takes years to perfect and that you never stop learning. Hotel managers and waiters who boast that they are "fluent in 6 languages" are no such thing; they have a certain knowledge of these languages "for special purposes", not true fluency and they annoy me because they can make serious language students feel inferior. Anyway, Mr or Ms-Miracle-Tutor, I take my cappello [hat - what a pity it isn't spelt the same way as our protagonist's surname!] off to you, if you can do it.
Why I Love Autumn in Sicily 🍂🍁

Everyone always tells me that English is quite easy to learn superficially very quickly because the grammar is simpler. But like every other language it does take years to master. I'm still trying after almost twenty years with Italian.
But living in the UK will make it much easier and he di say learn and not master. Plus he'll have this beautiful musical accent and all mistakes will be forgiven.
"Ciao" Welshcakes L: (I wish I knew your real name), There, Ciao is my total Italian vocab, Scussi !
Just picked up your message on my site xx. You seemed a bit low, if so, this time of year makes us all a little sad, thinking of loved ones in times gone by.
Crikey, Enough Gloom!
"Deck the Halls with boughs of Holly, Tra la la, Tra la la la".
"Happy Christmas" to you, Dear Welshcakes and Darling Simi and every good Wish for 2008.

I agree...learning another language takes a long time, but it is hastened when totally immersed.
When this guy dreams in English we'll know he has mastered it meanwhile very good luck to him we watch and wait! If he discovers how to speed learn then I want to know about it and apply it to Finnish which seems to be very hard.
I am sure I would quickly learn Italian if I was invited to visit Sicily one day....
Hi, jmb. True, his accent will charm everyone! Hi, True Blue. Well, I'm a Pat. I do tend to geta bit low at this time of year. Thank you for picking that up and understanding. Buon Natale and lots of love to you, too, from Simi and me xx Hi, Leslie. Immersion does, of course, accelerate things but the trouble with it can be that the people you are "immersed" with do not necessarily speak correctly. IT won't matter so much for Mr C, as he will have flunkies to do any writing for him, but it does matter for more ordinary souls. Ciao, kissa, I agree - when you dream in the fl you know you nhave got somewhere. I remember being so happy the first time I dreamed in French! Hint taken, Mutley. I hereby invite you to Sicily.
The spelling is close enough :)
We thought the same as you on the one month fluency speedway to English. My husband thinks Capello has some skills in English. I feel sorry for England...Capello is not a nice person. And I think they are shelling out big bucks to him.
I'm less concerned by how well he speaks English, as to whether or not he revives that ancient tradition of scoring goals...
Thanks, RH. Glad you thought the same, Sharon. It's unbelieveable they are paying him £4 million! I see your point, Crushed.
