SABATO MUSICALE

I enjoyed watching two live concerts from the Arena di Verona which were screened on Italian TV this week. The star was the man so beloved of Italians that the press dubs him the "Gianni nazionale" - Gianni Morandi, who was celebrating his 50 years in show business. Gianni sang all his hits, cavorted around the stage like the young rock star he once was, evoked a lot of emotion and generally made everyone happy. Of his recent songs, I love this:

Gianni Morandi - Solo insieme saremo felici

Personally I don't like any new song of his, of Celentano, Mina and whoever. Non mi dicono niente e non ricordo nemmeno la melodia. But of course I love Gianni Morandi, I also watched his show. He got so emotional about the son, did you catch the part where he bent down his head and turned around, I don't think he was faking it, he was really crying. So touching. I like Celentano too but he's not likeable like Morandi. You might not have been in Italy, but in the early 60s, he and Claudio Villa (my favorite Italian singer ever) where always arguing with each other on TV. Celentano still has that habit of talking too much during his shows. Anyway, we're not all perfect and we are not all the same, I love him as a singer.

Hi, Francesca. Yes, I think he really was crying, too. I love Gianni because he always seems so nice to his audience. I can't stand Celentano, I'm afraid but I did like Claudio Villa.
