NUTTERFINGERS?

If there is one Italian passion I do not share, it is the enthusiasm of the citizens of my adopted country for the hazelnut and chocolate spread, Nutella.  I am therefore perplexed as to why anyone would want to steal some, let alone 5.5 tonnes of the stuff but that is what happened at the weekend when thieves took the jars, valued at €16,000, from a parked lorry in the city of Bad Hersfeld in the German state of Hesse.

There is no word as to whether or not the thieves have been caught but, unless they are from that lucky group of individuals who can eat chocolate-covered lard all day without feeling sick or putting on an ounce, they shouldn't be hard to find.

Now, 5.5 tonnes of gelato I could understand.....

This was an amazing story - I've been following it. Also, I don't know how to shift dozens of crates of Nutella. Any ideas?

I am of the same opinion regarding Nutella, but only after I had tasted a luxurious giandiua spread from Piemonte. Honestly, how can someone indulge in the former when the latter is such a superior product?!

This article on Saveur says it all:

I have never tried Nutella...and I believe I never will...it just doesn't tempt me; it never has.

Wow! I could think of better things to steal if I was going to hijack a truckload!

Now, if it was a truck loaded with Frangelico...I'd be tempted!! ;)

I quite like it...I'm sure you could make a fabulous pudding with it, maybe substituting it for coffee in tiramisu and adding some amaretto or similar?

Sorry, James - no! Hi, Rowena. I couldn't agree more! Hi, Lee. Yes, I could think of much better things too! Hi, WW. Yes, that's a good idea. Some chefs do fill pastry with it here but I'm not keen. Ice cream wins every time for me, Liz!
