CHIARA'S FESTA

Some images from a scrumptious spread yesterday: a simple but very pretty way of serving grapefruit from Chiara's garden; a salad of lettuce, brown bread that has been oven-crisped, grana cheese, pear and apple; lasagne with a spinach filling; good, local bread; stuffing balls; chicken which has been marinated in and filled with fruit [Chiara is going to give me the recipe for this so when I have it I will share it with you]. A jolly British trifle was served for dessert, along with the biscuits I baked yesterday, plus various cakes and pastries that guests had brought along: I couldn't get pictures of any of these before they were cut, demolished and scoffed!

It is so nice to share a meal with friends. Was it grapes with the chicken? Will be thinking about you tomorrow; good luck.

SO many temtingl tasty foods. Somehow a stir fry in Romford seems bleak and dull in comparison!

What a fine feast that was Welshcakes, and only lunch. I'll bet you had a boiled egg for dinner!

This is the only time of the year that I make trifle or was it zuppa inglese which I haven't made for ages?

This certainly beats the toad in the hole we had yesterday. What would the Italians make of that?

Good luck today with your new job.

I have cut out the pictures and arranged them around my flat as a reminder of what food is supposed to look like....

hi, it's always flattering to find anglophone people living in and appreciating Italy in spite of all the problems we have (notoriously in Sicily...)

I made the opposite trip and came to Britain from Italy.

I've just given you a link, if you care to reciprocate :)

BTW, Ellee, are you chasing me in the blogosphere?!? you are great, ciao from here as well

Looks like a feast! Unfortunately, I'd need another dress size if I ate all that...and I would, hee.

Mmmm........scrummy!
The idea of sharing food in the warmth of Sicily sounds so delightful from the cold dark evening here. Enjoy.

The stuffing balls look good- what are they made from?

Hi, MM. Not sure what fruit - will find out. Thank you, David. Jams, Chiara will be dekighted that a photographer such as yourself likes the look of her food! DD, I know, I will tell them off! I hadn't realised you are in Bristol, where I grew up. Oh, the drinks tab must have been the last straw! HI, jmb. I didn't have anything for dinner after that lot! Definitely trifle.Glad it appeals, Anne. Thanks, janejill. I'm wicked when I get the chance, Leslie! Thanks for your good wishes, Ellee. I think Itals would find the idea of toad in the hole odd, but they would enjoy it! Chiara will be delighted, Mutley! Nice to meet you, Miss Welby. Coming over to yours now. Bretwalda, I can tell! thank you, Sally, you are so kind. I will! Ciao, Pink. Well , it's only an occasional feast!! Not sure, exactly, Crushed - will ask Chiara.

Hi, Kissa, It can get pretty cold here at this time of year, though - But the lovely colours of everything and the sheer exuberance of the food help!
