Good to be here

I would like to thank Pat for allowing me to post on her blog. To the right you will see a picture of me taken in Paris in July of this year.

When I started blogging just under a year ago I would never have believed I would have met so many people by sitting a laptop on my knee. Thanks to Blogpower, I came across this blog, with its wonderful description of life in Sicily. Doesn’t it make you envious? Now that it’s getting darker earlier in the evening and you can feel a nip in the air, the thought of life in Sicily sounds more tempting by the day.

My blog is mainly about politics and current affairs; and occasionally about the recent flooding of my house. Here I find an oasis of calm away from politics and I know those of us who are political bloggers look forward to the recipes and pictures Welshcakes Limoncello offers up to us.

Making friends around the world proves that we have more that unites us than divides us. I used to be organist of a parish church in Ferryhill, Co Durham, and the church has a twin parish in Rheinhausen, near Duisburg, in Germany. I have many friends there and have visited them many times. About three years ago I was invited to give an organ recital at a church that was celebrating its 75th anniversary. Some friends offered to feed and water me and thankfully they lived just around the corner from the organ I was going to play. On the day of the recital I couldn’t walk around the church without someone wanting to shake my hand or hug me. I realised that if it was not for music my life would be much poorer. Music not only enriches our lives when we listen, but it opens up a world of opportunities for a musician to travel, meet people and in its own way, make the world a more peaceful place. Travel does indeed broaden the mind and jaw-jaw is better than war-war. This is where two of my interests meld beautifully together and my life is richer for it.

I have posts planned for the next few days with some stories from a recent visit to Rome. Travel is a passion of mine and whenever I get some time off work my feet get itchy and I long to find the nearest airport. So, hopefully, I will have a few stories that will make you chuckle until Pat comes back and tells us stories of her travels in the UK. I bet she is feeling the cold as I write!

G'day, Andrew...nice to meet you. It's good to see that the "home fires are being stoked" while Welsh is absent from the table! ;)

Music, blogging: it's wonderful when interests bind us, across gender, religion, age, location. Much better than when dissimilarities separate us.

I agree with what you say about music - I don't play, but I am a great audience.

Travel has some of the same satisfaction yes?

Nice post, I look forward to your stories.

Hi, Andrew. It's a pleasure to have you post here and thank you for your kind words about my blog. I agree with what you say about travel and you are right about jaw-jaw, as Churchill said. So interesting to learn that you are a musician as well and that must be deeply satisfying. Lovely post - thank you again.
