ITALIAN WOMEN ARE SLIMMEST IN EUROPE

It's official:  according to research findings published on The Lancet website, Italian women are the most svelte in the EU and rank 63rd in the world for thinness.  Italian men, on the other hand, are 133rd in the world but in the nation as a whole only 10% of people are overweight.

Britain, shamefully, has the highest number of obese inhabitants in the EU but the South Pacific island of Nauru, whose inhabitants have reportedly succumbed to a diet of junk food, has the highest number of obese inhabitants in the world, with 90% of the population being clinically obese.

The thinnest people in the world are those of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

How, you may ask, do Italian women do it? Indeed,  I am often asked in the comments on this blog whether they count calories.  The answer is, of course, that they eat healthily, do not rush their meals and do not eat between them.  Having said that, I have to add that many of them have exercise régimes that they carry out with military precision and regularity. But I'm sure that their relaxed and respectful attitude to food is the secret.

Oh Pat, you forgot to mention that they are obsessed with their looks nowadays. I do hope that they are happy in their pursuit of perfection.

It's good to hear that Italians are not edging into the obesity zone, but I must say there are many more overweight people here now than there were 20 years ago when I first arrived. Especially among younger people. I think it's the advent of more fast-food options.

A svelte Italian lady I knew swore that the secret to her figure was a bowl of spaghetti for lunch everyday.

I've lost around 20 kg since I moved out to Milan, everyone I know at home keeps commenting about how tiny I am, but to me I'm the around the same size as the Italian women I see around me every day. Italians in general eat very well, I hope they don't fall into the same junk food trap as the UK.

is the democratic republic of congo actually democratic?

if i was an african dictator i'd crown myself emperor. how can any dictator handle the shame of the mere title of president when emperor is so much better

considering how nice curvy women are the vogue in africa congo must be really fucked up

i once read a book by an aussie girl who went to europe. she said italian women are so well groomed it's intimidating!

hey how CAN italian women be so thin with all that lovely ragu and pasta??????

ps can you make real ragu? I know I probably asked this before... it has something to do with piling tomatoes in an open tray in the oven and evaporating the juice so you have a very rich pulp left over

that's why i buy it and check carefully it is genuine ragu not just tomato puree watered down and flavouringed.

bark bark woof! ~~~~~~~ that's to simi how is she?

A healthy lifestyle for the women maybe true, but sadly since moving here in 2004 I notice more and more obese children!

Hi, Rosaria. Yes, that's true! Hi, Saretta. I am happy to be able to say that traditional food saw off an attempt to open a McDonald's here in Modica a few years ago. And I'm sure she was right, WW! Hi, Nerys. I share your hope. Hi, Chrysalis and welcome. You could be right! Hi, Gleds. I don't know much about the DOC. I think you'd make an excellent emperor! You do make me laugh. Yes, I do know how to make proper ragù. Simi is fine, thanks, and sends love and wags. x woof! That is a shame, LindyLouMac. I don't see that down here.
