I remember your kind words to me last January when I was reminiscing about the death of my Father(who died prematurely in the 70's) so I more than sympathise with you.
Never seen that video you shared before. Personally I can never hear a recording of Eddie Calvert's "Oh mein papa" without breaking my heart.
What a beautiful tribute to your father. May you be blessed for your memory of him. I understand you missing him. The older I get, the lonelier I am for my parents. So much I would want to say that I wasn't able to, or didn't know, in my youth. Do you think they read in our heart, Welshcakes?
Thank you, amethyst. I feel the same, lakeviewer. Thank you, dear friend DD. Thanks, Claudia. Yes, I think it becomes more difficult, in a way, as we grow older ourselves, because there is so much more that we understand about our parents now. I'm not religious but I think they are with us.
Thanks, Cherie. We cope because we have to but it doesn't hurt any less because we are adults. I can only urge you to make the most of every moment you have with your parents, which I'm sure you do.
I'm a sort-of retired language teacher from Cardiff, Wales, UK, now trying to make a new life in Sicily. I'm not growing vines, making olive oil or restoring a palace stone by stone!

I'm writing my memoirs because I still miss my defunct parents. There isn't a day that I don't think about them.

Ps - DD: That song just breaks my heart.
My thoughts are with you xx I don't know how I am going to cope and feel when the inevitable happens.
