Not a post about Italy but a tribute to one of my favourite singers and songwriters, Kate McGarrigle, who died from cancer yesterday. She wrote this beautiful song in honour of Lena Spencer, the owner and inspiration of Caffè Lena in Saratoga, New York.
Thanks for the songs, Kate.

I don't need to listen to this vid. Know their music well from the 70s and they're on one of my Spotify playlists. I've also got them on the list as possibles for my Sunday Morning Coffee series.
A lovely song as a tribute.
Thanks for letting us know.
A great artiste and a great song... sad about her passing.
I was quite shocked to hear this too. No more Kate and Anna.
Hi, Calum. Good to know that you like them too. I especially love this song. Hi, Mutley. I agree. Sad, isn't it, jmb?
I heard the McGarrigle Sisters first, in Montréal, in the 60s with Le Trio Canadien. We loved them instantly. They sang well of our way of life. "Complainte pour Ste Catherine" (Lament for Ste Catherine) is such a humourous monologue, truly French-Canadian, words and music. But they could also moved from their roots, and reach all people, all hearts, everywhere.
The video you're presenting is deeply moving, beyond mere music. We (of Kate's generation, in Montréal) feel we have lost a sister.
Thank you, Welshcakes.
Hi, Claudia. Thank you for your thoughtful comment. It is good to know what Kate meant to Canadians. I have the song, "Compliante pour Ste Catherine" on one of her CDs so I'll listen to it again. What beauty she has left us.
