In the intervals over the past couple of days when I have not been lying around feeling sorry for myself because the 'flu has dared to visit me, I have been running my fingers over the smooth wood of this smart new pepper mill that I bought on Friday. My old one - a plastic contraption that you could use with one hand - decided to disintegrate and that's the second time this has happened to me with that type of mill: after a year or so, admittedly of quite heavy use, the refill compartment opening just loosens and pepper gets everywhere. You can't get that kind here anyway, so I decided I might as well go for beauty this time. What I would like to know is, what do readers keep their pepper mills on? I keep mine on this Sicilian gel mould, though I did write to Lakeland [a UK kitchenware company which does take note of customers' suggestions] a few years ago and I believe they did stock a pepper mill stand at one time.

I love Lakeland... or lakeland plastics as it used to be known.
A grand looking pepper mill too , some thing i should treat myself too, as well as a salt one.
Now Welshcakes, I just posted a comment a few minutes ago but it went west. Surely I'm not the only one who sees other things in your stroking of that beautiful object. No wonder you feel better now.
Welshcakes, now isn't that naughty Sir rude... I am very glad to see you on the mend; I have not been visiting anyone for the past two weeks - just a very busy time, but I always look forward to seeing your blog- you give me such a varied view of life there, in fact , your blog becomes more and more sophisticated every time I come back! Hope you are feeling much better too. xx
I'm biting my tongue! "Sir" said it all! ;)
Lovely pepper mill. I've got a perspex one and a large wooden one but the latter just refuses to work! I can't bring myself to toss it out! I've never had a stand...I've never thought about one, to be honest, but now that I do...I must look around for something suitable. I'm sure I could find something interesting at the local "Op" Shop.
Sorry to hear you're not well, Welsh. No doubt you caught the "bug" in your travels from one climate to the other and back again...and, of course, from the confines of the flights. Cuddle up with Simi to give you solace. I'm she won't object. :)
This wood one is much nicer. I love anything in wood and can imagine running my hands over it too.
They are messy aren't they, I have a nutmeg mill as well that makes a mess, even though I tap it before putting it away.
I do miss my comment popping right up.
Hi, Sally. Yes, it's one of my favourite stores and I miss it. James, you are naughty - but nice, like the pepper mill! Thanks, janejill. I think the sophistication is probably due to the quality of the guest posts! nice to have you back. Hi, Lee. I can imagine you biting your tongue there! Do let us know if you find something interesting to use as a stand. Yes, I'm sure it's the change of temp that's done it and you're right - doggy cuddles are the best treatment! Ciao, jmb. Glad you like it. Here you get tiny little graters in every jar of nutmeg. Sorry about the moderation - necessary at the moment.
I love the feel of soft, smooth wood, silky and sensual to the touch. And just imagine how their contents will add that little extra something to make your dinners even more scrummy.
If we had one, it would be kept on the kitchen windowsill.
Ellee, my sentiments exactly! Hi, Crushed. No windowsills here, though!
I have just bought two wooden candlesticks. They are a similiar shape,a little plumper and curvacious. It was the tactile appearance that attracted me too. The last peppermill I bought was and electric one and it has a little removable lid on the bottom. No more pepper over the worktop.
Hi, MM. That's why I think manual peppermills need a stand. I can't cope with anything else that's electric!
welchcakes thet are classed as electric but are really battery operated. You just press a button;very handy
Hi, MM> In that case I could cope!
