PEACE DAY 2012

Switch on your television news programmes today and, I grant you, it is difficult to believe that it is Peace and Global Truce Day.  But it is and the fact that the Peace One Day site is, at present, overloaded is an indication of how much such an initiative is needed and just how many people all over the world are interested.

As an educator I am pleased that there are so many educational Peace One Day projects in progress in so many countries for I really do believe this:

"The highest result of education is tolerance."
- Helen Keller

And, to quote a man whose gentle likeness I pass every day:
"The pillars of true peace are justice and that form of love which is forgiveness."
 - Pope John Paul 11, 2001

That is a powerful quote by Pope John Paul II, Pat! I pray for peace in the world.

I didn't know there was a World Peace Day, but I love the idea. I get depressed thinking about all the hate in the world.

A very timely post in our crazy world. Would that all mankind could be educated and tolerant...and respectful of their fellow human beings.

Seems the world can't put its weapons down for even one day... I wish something like this could have a real impact but I'm not optimistic!

Indeed. But it seems that the Media, and Governments are in need of serious education as they are the little ones that are being pushed to unnecessary war again. I imagine the majority of populations of many countries do not want any more wars.

Hi, Pat. Yes, it really impressed me and he also wrote about how hard it is to forgive. Hi, Betty. so do I - I do think initiatives like this are important. Hi, Carmen. Thank you. I echo your thoughts. Hello, Rachel. Me too but we have to try. Hi, NH. Couldn't agree more.
