Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, 1964, by Jacques Demy

Feeling very low and melancholy this evening. Some of you will know that there have been some upsetting issues over at "Blogpower" but apart from that my lovely grandad died at this time of year and after tomorrow I'll have to take the Xmas decorations down - a task which, in itself, is enough to plunge me into depression.

Besides, it's been one of those melancholy winter days in Sicily, when you imagine that if the temperature were just a degree or two lower, you would experience again that "chill " in the air which is in the UK right now. - So you see, wherever you are, you still sometimes miss your country!

Anyway, I haven't seen snow for three winters now and so I looked for this to remind myself of it. [Though I want to know why Deneuve doesn't slip in it like I would in stilettoes!] This scene always makes me cry buckets, and, as I am already crying, I decided I might as well make a good job of it! The clip also proves that nothing is ever the end of the world, though it often seems that way. Somehow we get up and get on with our lives.

I just wanted to think about snow tonight.

I know it is an upsetting time for you, and with all that has gone on, don;t cry anymore..cry for what is important. Some people make snide remarks...they are not worth crying over.

In the last few weeks we have had "Freezing, chilly, cold, sunny and Wet" some parts of the country have either got or had snow, we were meant to two days ago..not a flake insight!!!!

It's a great clip, very poignant. Please don't cry any more. Everything will be resolved, you have great friends on your side, including me, and I trust your judgement implicitly.

Thank you, Ellee. That means a lot to me.

I'm afraid I'll have to give the clip a miss until tomorrow. Melancholy films/clips get me going too. *Never watching Cinema Paradiso again*

It was my late grandfather's birthday around now and at this time of year I think about him more. He was like a father.

I remember when I lived in Wales, we had some wonderfully snowy Winters in the valleys and hills. Since moving South (except my time in Berlin) I've rarely seen it. I love it.

Keep your chin up. :)

I have to take my decorations and tree down tomorrow too and the Christmas lights too. Not crying, just not able to eat, stomach all in knots.
We'll all be better soon

Hugs my dear friend - hugs - do not let the blogging problems get you down... people will be people... in the real world or the cyber ones...

It is a grey day here as well, but the sun has just come out and that makes everything look better - even the dust !!

Hugs again my friend...

The first Xmas after my grandad was awful.
I remember quite a bitter family row.

My aunt stormed out, I think.

Deneuve always looks good, no matter the circumstances.

I do that as well you know - when I am feeling blue I put on "An Affair to Remember" and "The Dirty Dozen" (I hate it when they kill off Donald Sutherland) and let rip the tears. I feel it's very organized to get it all done in one go.

And remember, things can always get worse! Which means they can always get better. Chin up, soldier on, keep breathing.

Thank you for sharing with us.

We had snow at the end of last week welchcakes and although it does look lovely to look out of a window at, it soon get slushy and muddy. Simi wouldn't like it and you really could not walk her in your red high heel shoes. Sorry to hear you have been feeling upset. I did post a little item for you ,silly really, I suppose, but at ten O'clock I will be dancing here in Ireland and hoping that you are too in Sicily.

Sorry this is not a good time for you but I do empathize as it is not good for me either. Aside from going all out at Chrismas for my granddaughter I didn't put up decorations in California or Idaho...cards were about it for me.

Hi, Crushed. That must have been awful for you. I'm so sorry. Thanks, Lady M. "an Affair to Remember" is onr of my favourites and I cry for days, not hours, each time I view it! thank you, MM. You're right - my red heels would not survive the snow! And Simi used to like it only for the first few hours after it fell. Over to yours in a mo. Sorry you're not having a good time either, pink. Will be there to catch up soon. xx

Time to put on your new scarf, have a last shot of the Christmas pudding vodka, kick off your shoes and dance to your favourite track. Also, buy some spring bulbs/flowers to cheer you up.

All excellent ideas which I shall act upon, WW.

I know this is kind of an icky time for blogpower-- I'm amazed myself at how it's devolved into bickering-- and I'm sorry to hear about your sadness and depression.

If you miss the snow, you can always come visit me in Minnesota. We have snow to spare! :)

Thanks, Ruthie - and you'll always be welcome in Sicily.
