I spotted my first fur coat of the season today. These are donned like a uniform once we get into winter and seeing them always amazes me. In Britain you would probably be attacked in the street if you wore a real fur and not even the women of the Royal Family wear them any more. You certainly could not openly advertise a furrier's establishment as is done here. I am, in this, a product of my own culture and time and am firmly against the making and wearing of these garments.
You can't wear furs here, either, without activists getting after you.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to think on that topic, especially since I wear leather shoes and own a leather handbag.
Hi, Bonnie. Yes, I sometimes feel like a hypocrite on this one. After all, I have leather shoes and bags like you, and I eat meat. But I think the clubbing to death of innocent animals just to satisfy women's vanity is a bit different and I am vanity itself!
ReplyDeleteDo they not wear fake furs over there?
ReplyDeleteYou can't be more vain than I am!
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm thinking losing my eyesight has a great benefit: I can't see my wrinkles!
I tried twice yesterday to comment but my connection must have been playing up - or you didn't like my post!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I was trying to say that I agree with you about fur-wearing. I suppose it's the difference between animals reared for meat/leather requirements, and killing wild, possibly endangered creatures.
But that made me wonder what justification there was for eating meat. Which was unfortunate as I had a large piece of pork to cook!
Hi, Liz. I didn't get any comment on this post from you yesterday so something must have been playing up! I feel the same as you do on the issue.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to post a comment here several times too, just to ask if the Italian ladies wear fake fur too.
ReplyDeleteBuona sera, Ellee. Fake fur trims, yes, but I have never seen a full-length fake fur here.
